Absinth Rituals

Method #1 – Water Ritual

The classic method of drinking it involves pouring cold

water over a slotted spoon which contains a sugar cube

into a glass containing a shot of absinthe.

As the water hits the absinthe, the oils precipitate out,

and the drink changes from a clear emerald color to an opaque,

milky white. This kind of ritual is better to choose for long evening

absinth drinking, with access for very ice water and enough time.

Metoda 1  – Vodní rituál

Jedná se o francouzský (klasický) způsob konzumace

Absintu, a to za použití vody. Do sklenice nalijte absint,

Na sklenici položte lžičku a na ni kostku cukru.

Přes tuto kostku cukru pomalu prolévejte vychlazenou,

neperlivou vodu a to do té doby, dokud nedojde ke zbarvení

(mléčné zabarvení) absintu, respektive dokud nebude poměr

dva díly vody na jeden díl absintu.

Tento způsob je vhodnější na celovečerní pití absintu,

s přístupem k vychlazené vodě a dostatkem času.

Method #2 – Fire Ritual

A variation of the traditional drinking ritual follows. In this

variation, a heaping teaspoon of sugar or cube is briefly

wet in the glass of pure absinthe, then lit on fire and held

over the glass. As the alcohol burns off, the sugar melts

into the glass. When the fire gets low, the remaining sugar

is stirred into the drink and the drink is quickly drunk.

This kind of ritual is more suitable for "shot drinking",

with limited access to iced water.

Metoda 2  – Ohňový rituál
Jedná se o švýcarský (český) způsob konzumace absinthu,

a to bez použití vody. Připravte si sklenici,

na ni položte absintovou lžičku a na ni cukr.

Přes tento cukr přelijte absint do sklenice.

Kostku obsahující absinth poté zapalte, po krátké chvíli dojde

ke karamelizaci cukru, který poté vhoďte do sklenice s absintem,

rychle zamýchejte a poté celé vypijte. Tento způsob je vhodnější

pro „panákové“ pití alkoholu, bez přístupu k chladné vodě.
